At breakfast of 7th of January, I eat Nanakusagayu, Seven herb rice porridge. It is a Japanese custom with ancestors’ wisdom for resting our stomach which can be tired from the feasting and drinking of New-year’s holidays and replenishing nutrient and vitamin by young herbs in cold winter.

Seven herbs or vegetables are seri (water dropwort), nazua (shepherd’s purse), gogyo(cudweed), hakobera(chickweed), hotokenoza(henbit), suzuna (turnip) and suzusiro (daikon radish).
